1.      Jose ArsenioA Perrera Barbosa (ManuelB, João LuisC) was born in 1843 in São João Batista, Vila Real, on the island of Brava, Cape Verde, a Portuguese colony.  He was a judge and owned a farm on the island.  His father, Manuel Barboza, was 47 and his mother, Mathilda Duarte, was 43. He married Henriquetta Jose Coelho abt 1870 and they had eight children together. He then married Ignez Neves da Rosa abt 1885 and they had seven children together. He died in 1909 at the age of 66.

2.       Isabel(Nha Zibilinha) Barbosa (JoseA, ManuelBJoão LuisC) was born on 24 May 1873 in São João Batista, Vila Real, on the island of Brava, Cape Verde, a Portuguese colony.  Her father, Arsenio, was 30, and her mother Henriquetta was 21.  She had one son and one daughter with Rufino Rodrigues.  On 5 Mar 1951 at the age of 77, Isabel was murdered in her bedroom when she confronted two men as they were trying to steal from her.  It is one of the few murders to have ever taken place on the island.  She was a formidable woman and threatened the two thieves by telling them that she knew their parents and would let them have it in the morning. She is buried in her hometown.

9.       Joseph Perry1 (Pop) Barboza (JoseA, ManuelBJoão LuisCwas born on 2 Mar 1889 in Pai Luis, São João Batista, Vila Real, on the island of Brava, Cape Verde, a Portuguese colony.  His father, Arsenio, was 46, and his mother Ignez da Rosa was 20.  He immigrated to the USA abt 1906 at the age of 17, booking passage by serving as a cabin boy on a two-masted schooner sailing out of Cape Verde.  With the outbreak of hostilities in Word War 1, Joseph joined the army, enlisting on 22 Jun 1918 when he was 29 years old, serving out his enlistment at Camp Devens, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, USA.  Camp Devens was “ground zero” in the 1918 influenza pandemic.  The first cases at Camp Devens were reported on September 8, 1918.  By September 23rd, 10,500 of the 50,000 soldiers were infected due to the close quarters of the troops living there.  The flu quickly spread to the nearby towns and inevitably struck Joseph’s family and friends.  In late 1918, Joseph went AWOL to help the Petren family as his goddaughter Arienne Petren contracted the flu.  Fortunately, Joseph escaped infection himself and was discharged from service after the end of the war on 29 Jan 1919.  After the war he worked at a textile mill where he met Catherine Nescior.  The couple married on 19 Oct 1919 and settled to live in mill housing in Holyoke, Hampden Co., Massachusetts, USA. He later (during the 1940’s) worked at Stevens Arms, an armory in
Holyoke.  He lost part of two fingers on his right hand in an industrial accident. He loved cigars and western novels by Louis Lamour.  Joseph and Catherine had nine children in 12 years.  He died on 8 Jun 1974 in Chicopee Falls, Hampden Co., Massachusetts at the age of 85.

10.    Avelino(Morris/Daddai) Barboza (JoseA, ManuelBJoão LuisCwas born on 29 Oct 1891 in Pai Luis, São João Batista, Vila Real, on the island of Brava, Cape Verde, a Portuguese colony.  His father, Arsenio, was 48, and her mother Ignez da Rosa was 22.  He immigrated to the United States, arriving in New Bedford, Massachusetts abt 1906 when
he was 16 years old.  He married Virginia Sena Oliveria in 1916 and had six children between 1918 and 1927.  He died on 2 Sep 1971 in Rehoboth, Massachusetts at the age of 79 and was buried in Pawtucket, Rhode Island USA.

11.     Augusto(Gus) Barboza (JoseA, ManuelBJoão LuisCwas born in 1894 in Pai Luis, São João Batista, Vila Real, on the island of Brava, Cape Verde, a Portuguese colony. There is a record of an Augusto Barboza immigrating to the United States on the Bark C.J. Rice, sailing from Brava, Cape Verde on 23 Apr 1912.  According to the recollection of Edward Barboza, son of Joseph Perry, August had no family and
does not appear to have ever married.  He lived with his siblings and was killed in the 1940’s in Providence, Rhode Island when he was hit by a car crossing the street. 

12.     Aurelio(Lin) Barboza (JoseA, ManuelBJoão LuisCwas born on 11 Nov 1901 in Pai Luis, São João Batista, Vila Real, on the island of Brava, Cape Verde, a Portuguese colony.  His father, Arsenio, was 58, and her mother Ignez da Rosa was 32.  Aurelio served in the merchant
marines.  He had six sons and four daughters with Elizabeth de Lomba between 1926 and 1941.  He died on 19 Jul 1972 in Providence Rhode Island.

14.    ManuelBarboza (JoseA, ManuelB, João LuisC) was born on 22 March 1910 in Pai Luis, São João Batista, Vila Real, on the island of Brava, Cape Verde, a Portuguese colony.  His father, Arsenio, was 67, and her mother Ignez da Rosa was 41. He was married to Mary Pina.  He
died in about 1992 in Alameda, California at the age of 82.
